Indonesia's First and Only Elite Label Road Race, Maybank Marathon, Will Be Held Again in Bali

 

Jakarta, 30 March 2022 – PT Bank Maybank Indonesia, Tbk. ("Maybank Indonesia") officially announced that Maybank Marathon will be held again on 28 August 2022, with the starting line at the Bali Safari & Marine Park, Gianyar, Bali. The 11th Maybank Marathon continues to carry the spirit of its one-decade anniversary celebration and will feature the original and sought after racecourse in Gianyar Regency, which offers the beauty of natural landscapes and warmth hospitality and culture.

Race Pack Collection Day, a separate event catered to runners, will take place on 26-27 August at Taman Bhagawan, Benoa, Bali. 

Since being introduced in 2012, Maybank Marathon is Indonesia’s only road race certified by World Athletics, formerly known as the International Association of Athletics Federations ("IAAF"). In 2020, Maybank Marathon became Indonesia's first and only ‘Elite Label’ marathon event, acknowledged by the World Athletics.  The acknowledgement has made Maybank Marathon as one of World Athletics' events. Moreover, Maybank Marathon is also certified as a major 'road running' event by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (“AIMS”).

The official announcement of Maybank Marathon 2022 was delivered by President Director of Maybank Indonesia, Taswin Zakaria, at Maybank Indonesia Head Office in Senayan, Jakarta, together with the race's principal partner, Indonesian Athletics Association ("PB PASI"), represented by the Secretary-General, Tigor Tanjung. The event also attended by representatives of running communities.

Themed as one-decade anniversary celebration, Maybank Marathon 2022 in Bali will feature Marathon (42.195 km), Half-Marathon (21.1 km), and 10K races. Registration for the Maybank Marathon 2022 in Bali will be available through www.maybank.co.id/Maybank-Marathon starting on 16 April 2022.

“We are proud to announce that our ‘Elite Label’ Road Race Maybank Marathon will be held again in Bali. Maybank Marathon has been the only marathon road race event in Indonesia certified by World Athletics (formerly known as IAAF), AIMS and PB PASI since first introduced in 2012. In 2020 Maybank Marathon was acknowledged as an ‘Elite Label’ road race by World Athletics and has become a qualifying event for the Indonesian National Games (PON) and the first Boston Marathon qualifying race in Indonesia,” said Maybank Indonesia’s President Director, Taswin Zakaria.

Furthermore, apart from being acknowledged as an ‘Elite Label’ by World Athletics, Maybank Marathon is included among the 175 qualifying events for the World Championship Abbott World Marathon Major (“Abbott WMM”) Wanda Age Group World Rankings, as well as the official race directory of the Boston Marathon. Maybank Marathon also received several international recognitions to name a few, “World’s must run race before you die” by The Active, “The 52 Best Races on Earth 2016” by Runner’s World, “Best Marathon 2016”, “Best Half-Marathon 2015”, and “The Most Popular Sport Event 2018” by The Venue Magazine. 

Maybank Marathon has earned certification from the International Measurement Certificate and endorsed by AIMS and PASI since the event was first held in 2012. "We hope Maybank Marathon 2022 will reignite runners' enthusiasm who are longing for an outdoor run road race, particularly in Bali, and help regain confidence in holding more outdoor sports events in Indonesia," Taswin added.

Along with all Maybank Marathon road races held in the past, Maybank Marathon Project Director, Widya Permana, said, “We will ensure the arrangement of Maybank Marathon 2022 to have necessary infrastructure, with focus on safety and security factors, as what we had in previous races.”

Maybank Indonesia aims to elevate Maybank Marathon to become the icon of world-class sports tourism in Indonesia, especially in Bali. “On top of infrastructure readiness, Bali has the capability to accommodate runners from around the world. We also hope that the upcoming 2022 Maybank Marathon in Bali can contribute to the economy and at the same time to support the recovery momentum for Bali’s tourism industry,” Taswin said.

To ensure runners' preparation for the 2022 Maybank Marathon, Maybank Indonesia will hold 'Road to Maybank Marathon Bali 2022' – a series of training and education programme, across several major cities. These training and education programme, serve as racers' physical preparation before participating in the 2022 Maybank Marathon in Bali. The programme includes a running clinic, the Sunday morning run, and training on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ("CPR") and Life Support. 

In line with the one decade anniversary celebration, the top 10 Male Finishers and the Top 10 Female Finishers from each category (10K, 21K and 42K) who participated in the 2021 Maybank Marathon Anywhere virtual race held in December 2021 will receive a free slot and accommodation to participate in the 2022 Maybank Marathon in Bali. Runners who participate in the 2021 Maybank Marathon Anywhere who finished the run challenge and bought merchandise will have an early access to register for the 2022 Maybank Marathon.
