Maybank Indonesia Supports Food Security Initiative Amid the Pandemic

Jakarta, 13 December 2020 – Amid the present challenging situation, PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk. (Maybank Indonesia) is participating in supporting food security activities for members of society affected by the pandemic. This activity was realized in collaboration with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) HARA, Artemis Impact, Campaign.com, and Innovator 4.0 as initiators of the Peduli Pangan (Food Care) program, by distributing food packages to 5,000 residents of densely populated settlements at Muara Baru in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on 9-13 November, 2020.

Head of Corporate & Brand Communication at Maybank Indonesia Tommy Hersyaputera,  explained the factors encouraging Maybank Indonesia to participate in the Peduli Pangan program, "We are paying close attention to the disruption in the food supply and demand routes, which has an impact on many stakeholders, especially the farmers who find their sales of products hampered by the implementation of large-scale social restrictions, and then there are also those who have become impoverished after loosing their jobs, who are threatened by a lack of food and nutrition amid the COVID-19 pandemic."

The Peduli Pangan program aims to address the food security problems that have occurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative seeks to provide solutions to food security problems in an integrated and comprehensive manner by purchasing agricultural products directly from affected farmers, then distributing these products through public kitchens that have been already established by program implementers. The food ingredients are then processed, cooked and made into food packages ready to be distributed to the impoverished affected by the pandemic.

Through Peduli Pangan, in addition to supporting the availability of food for 5,000 beneficiaries, Maybank Indonesia also aids 6 farmers by buying their agricultural products, as well as 50 local people who have become kitchen staff to gain additional income through their contributions to helping process the foods and distribute them to the affected residents.

"In line with Maybank Indonesia's mission of humanizing financial services, the support from this initiative is also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, namely ending hunger, achieving food security, providing better nutrition and supporting sustainable agriculture to create a healthy life and prosperity for everyone of all ages," said Tommy.

"We hope that this food security initiative can become an easy and simple alternative solution to help affected communities and at the same time provide benefits to aid their and the economy’s recovery," concluded Tommy.
