Maybank Indonesia Facilitates COVID-19 Vaccine Financing for Bio Farma

 

JAKARTA, 14 December 2020 - PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk. (“Maybank Indonesia”) is the first bank in Indonesia to provide facilities to state-owned pharmaceutical products producer and distributor PT Bio Farma (Persero) for its central role in the response to COVID-19 through the procurement of vaccines.

The partnership between Maybank Indonesia, through its Sharia Business Unit, and PT Bio Farma (Persero) demonstrates the strong collaboration, cooperation and synergy between the Government and private sector, especially for efforts to tackle COVID-19 in Indonesia and simultaneously offer a Sharia product or services.
 
The Sharia-based omnibus line facility of USD 185 million or Rp 2.68 trillion has been channeled to Bio Farma, through several terms. These financing facilities include Sharia services, Musharakah Trade Financing and forward hedging.

Regarding the financing facilities, Ricky Antariksa, Director of Global Banking at Maybank Indonesia said,"In line with the Sharia First approach, Maybank Indonesia provides this financing solution with the aim of expanding the scope of utilization of Sharia-based financing in the Indonesian business world."
 
Regarding efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, Ricky said,"Ae assess that PT Bio Farma (Persero) has a structured procurement plan and a strong business network through its subsidiaries PT Kimia Farma Tbk. and PT Indofarma (Persero) Tbk. which will carry out the function of distribution to the community."

In an effort to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, the Government through PT Bio Farma (Persero) will strive to meet domestic demand by preparing 15 million bulk vaccinations for the first phase.

Director of Finance and Business Partners at PT Bio Farma (Persero), I Gusti Ngurah Suharta Wijaya, earlier explained, "Currently, PT Bio Farma (Persero) is the holding company for pharmaceutical SOEs, and together with PT Kimia Farma Tbk. and PT Indofarma (Persero) Tbk. carries out business activities that focus on tackling the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Considering the breadth and scale of the pandemic response, we need solid and innovative banking partners to provide the right financial solutions. "
