UUS Maybank Indonesia Launches Masjid Berkah Festival A Sharing Movement for Spreading the Blessings with Masjids throughout Indonesia

Jakarta, 8 October 2021 – The Sharia Business Unit (“UUS”) of PT Bank Maybank Indonesia, Tbk. (“Maybank Indonesia, or the Bank”) today launched the “My Festival Masjid Berkah Bank” festival event, which will take place from October 8 to November 11, 2021.

The launch of My Festival Masjid Berkah Bank opens with a symbolic UUS Maybank & Masjid partnership event held virtually. Over 100 representatives of Masjids throughout Indonesia are invited to attend, as well as representatives of UUS Maybank including Maybank Indonesia Director of Operations Widya Permana, Secretary General of the Indonesian Mosque Council Dr. H. Imam Adduqutni MA., Maybank Indonesia Head of Sharia Banking Rommy Buchari, and Maybank Indonesia Head of Community Distribution, Harryanto Pramono.

The My Festival Masjid Berkah Bank offers a variety of activities, including the main education and literacy activities such as the Murottal competition for reciting verses of the Holy Koran, which will be recorded and later aired at UUS Maybank partner Masjids throughout Indonesia.

This festival includes activities to share the blessings, or berkah,  through the distribution of aid in the form of 1,000 vitamin packages to help prevent Covid-19 infections within the Masjid community, and the provision of awards for Masjids actively participating in promoting the Sharia-based financial solutions offered by UUS Maybank to their communities, especially in today's digital banking era, using QRIS technology and various other online transactions in the M2U ID digital banking application to facilitate the payment of zakat, infaq and alms.

Maybank Indonesia Operational Director Widya Permana said, "To demonstrate our participation in the Masjid community in Indonesia, we are holding a festival that emphasizes the elements of education and to share the blessings through providing assistance, while at the same time fostering the love of Muslims for the Holy Al-Quran by holding a Murottal competition. This festival also is a way to express our appreciation to the Masjids and their communities who participate in promoting sharia-based finance to support the growth of the Islamic economy in the country."

Masjid communities that can take part in this festival are those with established partnerships with UUS Maybank Indonesia, namely those that have used financial solutions from UUS Maybank to support Masjid management through opening accounts in the name of the Masjid to enable religious financial activities such as the payment of zakat, infaq and alms, as well as facilitate fundraising activities or donations by the Masjid congregations, all managed by the Masjid Prosperity Council (DKM) of each Masjid.

The Murottal Al-Quran competition between Masjids across Indonesia will be held virtually in two stages, commencing with the preliminary stage involving a panel of judges, including H. Syahrir Ali Basyah SQ, Muhammad Faisal Muchtar LC, M.Si and H. Masrur Ichwan M. Ag, who will assess the video recordings of recitations of the Holy Qur'an sent by participants to the committee via e-mail.

After the preliminary stage is complete, the next stage is the determination of the finals participants, or those who will compete against each other, and then the announcement of the winner will be made at the peak of the Masjid Berkah Festival activities via a webinar which will include a review of Masjid financial management and empowerment. This webinar may be viewed by Customers and the general public on the website, or on Maybank Indonesia's official YouTube channel.

Any who would like to participate in the Murottal competition may register at the My Festival Masjid Berkah Bank program website, where registration will be accepted from 8 October to 20 October 2021. This competition is open to participants from various backgrounds, from Imams to Muezzin, and Masjid youth, DKM and Masjid Jamaat members. The competition has two categories, for men and women participants who must be at least 22 years old. Each Masjid may enroll two participants in the competition.

Maybank Indonesia Head of Shariah Banking Romy Buchari said, "We hope this Murottal competition will generate enthusiasm among UUS Maybank's Masjid cooperation partner community members and make this event a means to hone their Holy Koran recitation skills. This competition will also produce outstanding Al-Quran recitors, who can later progress to a higher level, for example, the national level, and even the global level. We also hope this festival can increase awareness of Sharia financial management among Masjid administrators and their communities, and the general public.”

"The My Festival Masjid Berkah Bank is in line with the Shariah First commitment, realized by Maybank Indonesia since 2014, to support the Indonesian Government's vision to make Indonesia a global Islamic financial center, as well as a manifestation of our commitment and mission to humanizing financial services by becoming a banking institution able to listen to and develop alongside the people of the country," concluded Romy.
