Maybank Indonesia Berbagi Disaster Response

 

Jakarta, 9 March 2021 - PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk. (Maybank Indonesia), through the Maybank Indonesia Berbagi corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, provides assistance to victims of the recent natural disasters that occurred in Indonesia.

Assistance for the victims of the Mamuju earthquake was presented by Maybank KCP Mamuju employees, led by Branch Manager Ahmed of the Maybank Indonesia Mamuju Main Branch, to the Governor of West Sulawesi, Dr. H Andi Ali Baal Masdar, M. Si, at the end of February 2021. Total Maybank Indonesia assistance for the victims of the disaster in this area has reached Rp.60 million and targeted 250 beneficiaries.

These donations were then made into packages containing useful items to help the disaster victims in need of foods, beverages, medicines, and other necessary supplies.

In addition to this assistance, Maybank Indonesia and banking industry representatives also participated in fundraising activities conducted by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to provide assistance to the victims of natural disasters, including the landslides in Sumedang, floods in South Kalimantan, earthquakes in West Sulawesi, volcanic eruptions of Mount Semeru in East Java and Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta. In these five areas, Maybank Indonesia provided assistance worth a total of Rp.120 million. The assistance was provided by the OJK and banking industry representatives to disaster victims through the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

According to BNPB data, the landslides in Sumedang on 9 January 2021 caused the deaths of 36 persons and evacuation of 1,020 more. Meanwhile, the two earthquakes measuring 5.9 and 6.2 on the Richter scale that hit Majene in West Sulawesi on 14-15 January 2021, resulted in 81 deaths, damaged 1,150 homes and 15 schools, and caused the evacuation of 27,000 persons. The floods in South Kalimantan on 12 January 2021 claimed 15 lives, displaced 39,549 persons and inundated 3,571 homes with floodwaters up to 1.5 meters deep.

"In line with the mission to humanizing financial services, we have made a commitment to continually be prepared to assist communities surrounding ​​Maybank Indonesia operational areas, especially the community members afflicted by natural disasters, by helping ease the burdens on the victims,  and so, our employees participate in these efforts, both as witnesses and by providing donations," said Irvandi Ferizal, Director of Maybank Indonesia. "This commitment is in line with one of the pillars of the Maybank Indonesia Berbagi CSR initiative, which involves responding to events occurring in the country, especially natural disasters," he explained.

"Alongside representatives from the banking industry and OJK, we intend to take part in efforts to alleviate the burdens and suffering of our brothers and sisters affected by the disasters in these five areas. We are certain that these contributions will provide significant aid for our brothers and sisters in need,” continued Irvandi.

Implementation of the Maybank Indonesia Berbagi CSR initiative represents the company’s fulfillment of its social responsibility and good intentions as a corporate citizen, in line with the definition of sharing or the tangible manifestation of concern for others.
