GENERAL EXLPANATION

Q: What is meant by Public Drawing Registration at Maybank Marathon 2025?

A: Public Drawing Registration at Maybank Marathon 2025 is a registration process that uses a random lottery system to secure a running slot at Maybank Marathon 2025. This registration system has been in use since Maybank Marathon 2024. The goal is to give all participants an equal opportunity and a fair process to participate in Maybank Marathon. Prior to 2024, Maybank Marathon applied a first-come, first-served registration system.

Q: What is the difference between Drawing and Ballot?

A: In general, both terms refer to the same thing. Maybank Marathon uses the term Drawing because it is the same terminology used by the New York Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and Berlin Marathon.

Q: Why is Maybank Marathon 2025 implementing the Public Drawing Registration system?

A:

  • Capacity < Demand, with the total demand exceeding the capacity for participants every year, both domestic and international.
  • Convenience, as runners have a long period of time to register at any time and from anywhere, without needing to rush within a specified timeframe.

Q: When is the Public Drawing Registration for Maybank Marathon 2025 started?

A: The registration period will be from February 11 - 24, 2025, for 14 days.

Q: When will the Public Drawing results for Maybank Marathon 2025 be announced?

A: The Public Drawing results for Maybank Marathon 2025 will be announced on March 24, 2025.

INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP REGISTRATION

Q: What is meant by Individual Registration in Maybank Marathon Public Drawing 2025?

A: An individual participant can choose to register themselves individually, just like the usual registration for running events.

Q: What is meant by Group Registration in Maybank Marathon Public Drawing 2025?

A: Participants can choose to register as a group, consisting of a maximum of 4 people, only allowed in the same race distance category.

Q: Why does Maybank Marathon offer the option for Group Registration?

A: The Group Registration option is introduced for the first time in Maybank Marathon 2025 to accommodate runners who want to ensure that their group (more than one person) is all accepted, without worrying about some group members being accepted and not being accepted in the Public Drawing mechanism.

Q: Can a Group Registration select different race distances?

A: No. All members of the group must register in the same race distance category.

Q: What is an example of a Group Registration formation?

A: A group can consist of pairs such as a husband and wife, family members, coworkers, or running community members, where all participants share the same intention to register in the same race distance category.

Q: Is Group Registration a common practice in the running event industry?

A: Yes, this is a common practice. Running events like the Berlin Marathon and Osaka Marathon also implement the same system.

Q: What if I want to register both individually and as a group?

A: The system will automatically reject the second registration, as the data from your first registration will be considered for the drawing process.

Q: If I pass the Drawing as part of a group, will the race packet (bib, t-shirt, and goodie bag) be collected as a group as well?

A: Runners who pass the Drawing as part of a group must still collect their race packet individually; it cannot be collected by another member on their behalf.

Q: If I pass the Drawing as part of a group, and one member cannot participate on August 24th, will this affect the other members?
A: All runners who pass the Drawing as part of a group will have their own unique runner's ID, which will not depend on others. Therefore, if one member cannot run on August 24th, it will not affect the other members.

Q: Why only Credit Card is accepted? What about Bank Transfer or Virtual Account?

A: Bank Transfer or Virtual Account payments are not currently accepted because we want to ensure that the system selects only participants who are able to make an immediate payment if their name is selected. Bank Transfers or Virtual Accounts cannot currently process such immediate payments. Therefore, all registrants who wish to be accepted in the Maybank Marathon 2025 do not need to worry, as it is unlikely that any participant will be selected but fail to complete the payment.

Q: Is using only Credit Cards common in the running event industry?

A: Yes, this is very common. World Marathon Majors such as New York, Chicago, Boston, London, and Berlin implement the same.

Q: If I don’t have a Credit Card, can I use someone else’s card (like a close friend, relative, or family member) to register?

A: Technically, this can be done, but it is the responsibility and risk of both the participant and the cardholder. This will not affect the likelihood of a participant being selected or not in the Maybank Marathon 2025 drawing process.

Q: Are there any tips or tricks to ensure my Credit Card can process the payment successfully?

A: When the announcement is made on March 24, 2025, ensure that the Credit Card being used is active, not expired, not blocked, has no overdue payments, and has not exceeded the credit limit for Credit Cards.
