Empowering Women through Micro Financing Program

Maybank Indonesia together with Maybank Foundation in collaboration with Koperasi Mtra Dhuafa (KOMIDA) has since 2012 conducted activities to empower women from underprivileged families through a micro financing program, by providing a revolving fund for 1,250 women SMEs in Indonesia with a total grant of IDR 1 Billion. This program was implemented in three regions, which are Jonggol, West Java; Sragen, Central Java; and Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. By adopting the Grameen Bank financing model, this program provided capital loans for Indonesian women who wanted to build a business. This empowerment program aimed to help reduce poverty by empowering women to be independent, helping to earn additional income and increasing knowledge and human resources quality of women.

In 2016, Maybank Indonesia together with Maybank Foundation again provided a grant of IDR 1 Billion to empower women from underprivileged families through Mitra Dhuafa Cooperative (Komida) in 3 new regions which were Majalaya, Bandung (West Java), Grobogan and Magelang (Java Middle). This program was a continuation of the micro financing program that has been implemented since 2012, and to date the number of beneficiaries of the program is 8,255 female micro entrepreneurs.
